Once a fire has been given a chance to grow and generate huge amounts of heat, it becomes almost impossible to stop. How do you stop a fire that is crowning in 20 year old Pines, fanned by a 100 kph wind, flames 50 to 100 meters into the sky with spot fires starting up to 3 kms ahead?

We have experienced fires that behaved in this manner, the average timber losses per fire was 6,500 hectares. The fires were only stopped with the assistance of a wind and weather change. The only system that can prevent fires from becoming catastrophic, is a system that detects fires immediately they start and then has fire equipment that can attack the fire within 10 minutes of the smoke report.
